How can we speak about the mechanisms behind one or multiple pandemics throughout history? Plague-19 is a project developed during the Pier-2 residency in Taiwan in 2022.
This series of textiles and 3D-printed objects tells the story of two epidemics: the Black Death (1346–1352) and Covid-19. The installation unfolds in three illustrated chapters, drawing inspiration both from flamboyant Gothic style and the iconography of contemporary media.
The onset of a pandemic, the peak of the crisis, and the aftermath are cyclical mechanisms in global crises—whether in the Middle Ages or our postmodern era.
Objects referencing the art of the table reflect on social relations and how they are transformed during times of pandemic.
